15 qualified teachers, i.e. 3 professors, 6 assistant professors, 2 senior teachers, 3 assistants.
Educational directions:
The department prepares the mining engineers on the professions:
v mine and underground construction;
v management of organizations.
The department is one of most largest departments in DonNTU, was based in 1929. Near 2800 mining engineer-constructors was prepared by the department. Many of them hold a leading post in the mine and underground construction, the mine-rescue service, the administrative authorities.
The special preparing of the students on the direction “Town underground construction” is perspective and actual in the modern conditions. This work in the central regions of the greater cities on the metro construction, the underground trade and cultural centres, the tunnel, the oil and gas storage etc.
Scientific directions:
v the safety and the efficiency of the blasting;
v the development of the geomechanical foundations, the ways and the technologies of the construction of the pit-shafts and the capital excavations;
v the improvement of technology of the excavation driving;
v the liquidation of the shallow complex of the closed coal mine within the framework of the restructuring of the coal industry in Ukraine.

At our university the first experience of the new approach to training has made: it has included in the educational plan and has grounded methodologically new discipline " The explosion defence of excavations". Students receive global knowledge on the theory and practice of this important site of their future practical activity, and primarily they understand, that with irresponsibility in acceptance of the decisions in this question - many innocent people will suffer. Using this knowledge the student differently will perceive study of special disciplines.
It is supposed with preparation of the mining engineers - builders and managers of mountain construction to enter on the senior rates discipline " Social, technological and economic consequences of a marriage (spoilage) in mining construction ".
Students as a result of its study should realize, as a complex of irresponsible acts of the engineers with performance of a sequence of various processes and operations (now they listen to it in parts with study of technical disciplines) leads to final result in significant human victims, to large material losses, quite often destroys and puts out of action the communications and equipment.
The second not less important direction of preparation of the responsible "global" engineer is a technique of reception of knowledge on management and marketing.
Traditionally it is accepted, that the preparation of the managers is conducted in high schools on a direction of their activity, for example, manager of industrial sphere, non-productive sphere etc.
The knowledge of such expert morally becomes outdated not only in 3 years, but at once after reception of the diploma. You see such expert does not know to the full modern manufacture, where he will work (and it promptly develops). It is the abstract expert owning in perfection only by management laws. As it was declared by the Donetsk chiefs state administration at a conference the “ Program of region development ”, pure managers cannot supervise even over small enterprises. Therefore in Donetsk state university within several years the preparation of experts on directions " working out of deposits of minerals " and " the electromechanical equipment of power-consuming industries " has been conducting with reception, except the basic, second speciality " Management of organizations " Since 2000 such preparation is beginning and on a direction " mine and underground construction ".

By increase of working week till 32-36 h., besides a part obligatory for the second speciality of disciplines partially shout to one another with disciplines on the basic speciality.
The training simultaneously on two specialities will allow at the same time to raise quality of the expert on both directions. In particular, the manager, carrying out the additional project on management as the initial data uses the degree project on the basic speciality - for example, on mine construction. You see now he develops technical and organizational measures on realization in life of the project.
